Mort Sahl Concert Rescheduled
The Mort Sahl Concert has been rescheduled for Sunday, February 8th at 7pm. A comedy legend, Sahl literally revolutionized the stand-up form, leading the transition from tame jokes to dark satire. Sahl would unassumingly appear onstage in a sweater, carrying a newspaper and then launch into a non-stop delivery that showcased a keen political awareness, fearless criticism of the government, and a willingness to draw on his own personal experience. In 1960, TIME magazine pictured Sahl on its cover, calling him "the patriarch of a new school of comedians." He was the first humorist to earn this honor. Lenny Bruce, Woody Allen and Jay Leno have all cited Sahl as having a major influence on their comedy. He ranks 40th on Comedy Central's top 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time. An unflinching critic of American politics, Sahl has had a longstanding non-partisan approach to his political humor, satirizing every president from Eisenhower to Clinton. He wrote speeches for John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan, and has worked on the campaigns of Bill Bradley and George W. Bush. In today's arena of political humor that includes "The Daily Show" and The Onion, Mort Sahl's comedy is more timely than ever. | ||||||
