Welcome back! There’s not much going on! Catch classics like “Life on Mars” from the Thin White Duke’s Mick Rock/blue eye shadow period. Also tonight, Melvin Van Peebles will introduce his first film, “La Permission (Story of a 3-Day Pass).” Made in France in 1968, it is shown as part of a tribute to the filmmaker. COMEDY They Stand, They Joke Attention fans of dry, witty one-liners and shaggy haircuts: Demetri Martin is doing a late-night stand-up set at the UCB tonight. Advance tickets are sold out; come early for the standby line. Or head to Crash Mansion for Comedy Central’s showcase. It’s hosted by Christian Finnegan of VH1 and features local stand-ups like Chelsea Peretti and Todd Barry. NIGHTLIFE Uncommon Delays After several delays, Common is now scheduled to release his new album, “Universal Mind Control,” next week. Until then, you’ll have to content yourself with his latest mixtape, which you can hear regular and remixed tonight at Sway, at the regular party hosted by Roxy Cottontail. |
